Health card for birth control pills?

What general information do I need to provide to go on the birth control pill? Do I need my health card?

Peel Public Health’s Healthy Sexuality Clinics provide birth control pills at a reduced cost.

You don’t need a health card (OHIP) to receive services at a Peel Healthy Sexuality clinic. When you arrive at the clinic you’ll be asked for your health card when you check in, but if you don’t have one, that’s okay — you’ll still be seen by a clinic nurse or a physician.

Next you’ll be asked to complete some forms as you wait for your turn to speak with a Public Health Nurse or physician. You’ll be asked to provide your name, address, date of birth, phone number, previous birth control use, past health history and any known allergies on the forms. This information will help you and the nurse or physician decide which pregnancy prevention method is best for you.

To get the birth control pill from one of Peel Public Health’s Healthy Sexuality Clinics, call 905-799-7700 to book an appointment at the clinic that’s most convenient for you. Many of our clinic locations offer drop-in hours during the week, so if you’d prefer, just pop by instead of booking an appointment.

Peel Public Health’s Healthy Sexuality Clinics also provide free condoms, free pregnancy testing and confidential counselling. Learn more about our clinic services, watch a video about what to expect at a Healthy Sexuality Clinic or call 905-799-7700 and ask for the Sexual Health Information Line.
