Gardasil® school clinics for Grade 8 boys
I know that Gardasil® is being offered to Grade 8 girls at school vaccination clinics and that Health Canada approved Gardasil® for men and boys in 2010.
Is this vaccine also being offered to Grade 8 boys at school vaccination clinics this year?
Thanks for your question.
Gardasil® is the brand name of the human papilloma virus/HPV vaccine. Gardasil® protects against 4 types of human papillomavirus (HPV): 2 types that cause 70% of cervical cancers in women, and 2 types that cause 90% of genital warts in men and women.
While Health Canada approved Gardasil® for boys and men in 2010, Public Health is NOT currently providing Grade 8 boys with this vaccine in school clinics.
If you’re interested in Gardasil® for a boy or man between the ages of 9-26 years, please make an appointment with your family doctor.
