Sexual Orientation

Healthy Sexuality is not just about having safer sex. It's also about feeling comfortable with your own sexual orientation, the freedom to express your sexuality, choice, self-esteem and self respect and being accepting of others' sexual identity.

There may come a time in your life that you question your sexuality and ask yourself questions like: "Could I be gay? Am I different from everyone else? Is this a phase I'm going through?" These are all normal questions. It may take time for you to answer them. The best thing you can do is to give yourself that time to explore and experience your sexual feelings. If you discover that you are gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, or transgendered, you may face some tough challenges like deciding when and if you come out to your family and friends and how you will deal with their reactions. It's important to know that those who identify themselves as gay , lesbian, bi-sexual, or transgendered have more legal rights and protections in Canada than ever before.
